he’s doing a good job defending himself from supposed national security concerns regarding china except the actual reason for the US government banning tiktok isn’t national security concerns, it’s companies like facebook mad at competition lmao
the so called progressive stance online that data mining (which is required for good algorithms, and tiktok’s algorithm is bomb meaning…. data mining is a big part of their model) is only bad if its from a u.s. company is why we will never get true regulation. especially since… it’s the same thing that the conservatives defending fb and google say!!!!

I highly recommend you look into the actual proposal here, called the RESTRICT act, because the only precedent it sets is that if you become a competitor to a US tech company the government can call you a threat and block US users. the US government doesn’t care about companies abusing data, facebook still exists after the cambridge analytica scandal. they care about foreign companies challenging tech monopolies in the US.
it’s easy to agree with this proposal if you only see it as involving tiktok, which is exactly why it’s being called a “tiktok ban”.
